Emergency
If you experience a dental emergency, please phone our office as soon as possible. If you phone during regular office hours, we will try our best to accommodate you as soon as possible. We recognize that problems do occur on short notice and we do place time within our schedule to accommodate emergency patients.
However, these times may be somewhat limited and we appreciate your flexibility with this.
If you experience a dental emergency after hours, again, phone our office phone number — 403-282-9161. On the answering machine, the after hours contact numbers for the doctors will be listed. Please feel free to contact the doctors at these numbers so that appropriate arrangements can be made for treatment.
We will provide you with a short list of remedies for the following problems:
Toothache
First, rinse your mouth out with warm water, brush and floss as thoroughly as possible. If your mouth is swollen, apply a cold compress to the area. Do not put an aspirin directly on the discomfort as this will cause the area to burn. Call the office as soon as possible.
Chipped or broken tooth
Again, rinse your mouth out with warm water to clean the area. Call the office as soon as possible so that the area can be examined and the appropriate treatment started.
Knocked out tooth
First, locate the tooth and clean the tooth very gently. Try to place the tooth back into the socket and hold it there while you contact our office. If this is not possible, place the tooth in a container of milk and again contact the office as soon as possible.
Food stuck between your teeth
This is a very common problem. First try to floss the area very gently and carefully to remove the object. Repeated attempts will often dislodge the particle. Do not stick a pin or similar sharp object in the area- it will cut or scratch your gums and possibly cause a more serious situation. If you can't get the particle out, please contact our office.
Lost filling
Phone our office as soon as possible. If you would like to temporarily protect the remaining tooth structure, you may try to place a piece of sugarless chewing gum into the cavity. A sugar type will likely cause more pain.
Lost tooth on a denture
Attempt to place the tooth back into the pink denture base. Phone our office and we will try to get this repaired as soon as possible. If you are unable to get to our office, you may attempt to use Crazy Glue as a temporary repair only. Please be careful with your skin and hands using this material. Again, this is only a temporary repair only.
